The Russian Tortoise Seed Mix is what I use in my pens. It has less of the grasses and more of the other plants than the Grazing mix.
It contains:
- Crimson Clover
- White New Zealand Clover
- Red Clover
- Plantain
- Turf Fescue
- Orchard Grass
- Fescue, Creeping Red
- Chia
- Chicory
- Turnip Greens
- Timothy grass
- Kentucky Bluegrass
These seeds were picked for their nutritional value (fiber, calcium, protein etc)as well as their palatability. I also grow dandelion and chickweed in the pens but, didn't include it in the mix. They can be purchased separately and are best grown in pots or a garden.
Some seeds are coated with Nitro-Coat Organic, which is an OMRI listed coating. This coating uses all organic ingredients: the proper rhizobacteria, a Calcium Carbonate coating that is naturally water absorbing to speed seed germination, and an OMRI listed organic adhesive.
